The room

A living room
that happens to
have a kitchen.

We did not build Bokaa to be photographed. We built it to be sat in — on a Tuesday, alone, for two hours, with a coffee going cold because the book got good. Everything in the room follows from that one idea.

  1. 01

    The wall is a drawing

    Somebody drew the whole of Pradhikaran across it in one weight of black line — the metro, the shopfronts, the streetlamps, an auto going past. You will find our own shutter in there somewhere.

  2. 02

    Pine chairs, green seats

    Folding, unfussy, and easy to pull across to another table when four becomes seven. Nothing in here is precious and nothing in here is bolted down.

  3. 03

    Plug points at the long table

    The working table runs along the banquette. Sit there with a laptop from eleven to four and the only thing anyone will ask you is whether you want another coffee.

Fifteen hours

The same room,
four different rooms.

Bokaa is open from eight in the morning until eleven at night, every day of the week. It is not the same place at each of those hours, and that is rather the point of a neighbourhood cafe.

  1. The first pour

    Shutters up, filter set, two regulars already at the window seat with the paper. Nobody talks much before nine and that is rather the point.

  2. The laptop hour

    The long table fills with people working. Plug points, refills, and no one hovering with the bill. Stay through lunch if the work needs it.

  3. Burgers and a second coffee

    School run done, the room turns loud and easy. Korean fried chicken, a ghee roast, an avocado toast that is definitely somebody's lunch.

  4. Last call

    The last table is usually the one that came in at nine for a coffee and stayed for dinner. We shut at eleven. We never rush it.
